CAQH ProView: set up, attest, keep it current. A plan reads the profile as of your last attestation.

CAQH ProView, now called the CAQH Provider Data Portal, is the free profile that health plans, hospitals and groups read when they credential a clinician. You register at proview.caqh.org, complete the profile, authorize the plans, attest and upload your documents. After that you re-attest on CAQH's fixed cycle, counted from your last attestation, or the profile expires.^AB

The name changed. The portal did not.

CAQH now operates as DataSpring, powered by CAQH, and caqh.org forwards to the new site. The portal kept its address, and DataSpring tells clinicians their access, account details, profile and saved links carry over unchanged.^BC Plans and credentialing staff still say "CAQH" and "ProView", so we use both names here.

Setting up the profile.

There are two ways in. If a health plan or group has already added you, CAQH emails a CAQH Provider ID and a link to create the account. If not, you self-register at proview.caqh.org. Registration asks for your provider type, name, address, primary practice state, birth date and email, along with your Social Security number, NPI, DEA number and state license.^A

CAQH's own guide gives six steps, in this order.^A

1. Register.
2. Answer every question in the profile.
3. Review the profile for errors.
4. Authorize the organizations that may read it.
5. Attest that it is true and complete.
6. Upload the supporting documents.

The order matters more than it looks. The portal accepts documents only after a successful attestation, so a clinician who stops at step five has a profile that looks finished and is missing its license, malpractice certificate and the rest.^A CAQH sends a confirmation email once every required document has been received and approved. The first profile is a long sitting, and several practice locations or a long training history make it longer. Gather the documents before you start.

Authorizing the plans.

A plan can read only what you release to it. CAQH recommends a global authorization, which opens the profile to every organization that tells CAQH you are affiliated with it or becoming affiliated. You can instead pick organizations one at a time. A separate setting releases a limited slice of the profile to plans you are not in network with, so they can check an address before paying an out-of-network claim.^A

A plan appears on the authorization screen only after it adds you to its CAQH roster. The profile does not apply to any plan for you. You contact each plan directly, and the plan's roster request is what puts it on your screen.^A When a payer says it cannot see your profile, this is the first place we look.

Attesting, and what sets the next date.

Attesting is your statement that the profile is true and complete as it stands. Any edit after that stays invisible to your authorized plans until you attest again, and the portal shows a reminder bar across every page until you do.^A

Beyond that, CAQH requires a re-attestation on a fixed cycle, and Illinois clinicians run on a longer one. The clock starts at your last attestation. The portal's home page counts down to the next one, and CAQH emails reminders to the primary address on the profile and up to two more you add. Miss the date and the status turns to Expired the next day.^AB If your state license or liability insurance has expired, the portal makes you update it before it will let you attest.^A

What trips practices up.

• The reminders go to a former office manager's inbox. Nobody sees them, and the profile expires in the middle of an open application.
• The clinician attests and never uploads the documents, because the upload step comes after.
• A plan is missing from the authorization screen because no one has started an application with that plan yet.
• The profile lists an old practice address that no longer matches NPPES or the application.
• A group manages each clinician's profile separately and loses track of whose date is next. CAQH offers a practice manager module for exactly this.^A

Where CAQH stops.

Medicare does not enroll anyone through CAQH. It uses PECOS, its own system, with its own forms and signatures, which our PECOS guide walks through.^D Medicaid runs through each state's own enrollment. A clean CAQH profile helps with the commercial plans that read it and does nothing for either of those files.
